Happy New Year everyone! Hope 2010 is everything you want it to be :)
My resolution is to squeeze in some craftyness around taking care of His Royal Cuteness and working full time. We'll see how that works out. I go back to work this coming Monday... can't talk about it yet. Still rather torn about about leaving The Boy but Sweetboy is going to be Mr. Mom for awhile since he was laid off and still hasn't found another job. The fact that he'll be taken care of at home by Papa vs. a daycare makes me happy although I was quite happy with the daycare we selected before The Boy was born. Alrighty then, on with the crafty...
I finished this sweater when The Boy was still a bun in the oven. Love to finally see him in it; however, I've learned some lessons because this is the first and last time he will wear it.
Check out those chubby little fingers, don't you just want to eat them?!
I digress - back to lessons learned - this was a fun & fast little sweater from Easy-to-crochet Cute Clothes for Kids by Sue Whiting. I used Naturally Caron Country yarn and got the gauge by going down a needle but ultimately it was too dense and heavy. Should have stuck with the recommended yarn weight. If I remember correctly I was only off by about 1/2 a stitch in the gauge but the yarn weighed more than recommended and that made the difference.
Also - the cuff, bottom and neck hems were way too tight. You can see it a bit on his hands. No stretch or movement so it was difficult to get on him (which is why he won't be wearing it again). Next time will need to use a different cast on - maybe the double crochet foundation chain? Here is a great tutorial from the lovely Carina (check out her granny square afghans - gorgeous color selections, they're delicious!). This should provide a stretchy crochet cast on that will work to get around those chubby little digits.
I really liked the contrast thread on the buttons. Will need to do that on the next one. Maybe a white cardigan with different colored buttons down the placket and contrasting thread on each button? Oooh...I think I just decided on my next project.
(The color on this picture is kind of weird and cool don't you think?)
The weather has been gorgeous here in San Diego. Time to go outside and play - have a good one everybody!
Indeed Victoria :)

Handsome boy in a super nice sweater. May I add, both appear to have been made with love. *;)
